Painfully Predictable?

Climb out of your hole
leave the confines and be part
of a living whole

Does anyone get out of bed and head into the day with a desire to be predictable? Reliable maybe, responsible, don’t have any trouble with that, but predictable? Somehow I don’t think so. Feels like something to be fought against, railed against, grappled with, battled with and defeated. The idea of being perceived in such a way that your expected behaviour will always follow well-worn patterns seems to me suffocatingly restrictive, devoid of any chance to expand your intellectual, emotional or spiritual potential.

I have no desire to go crazy
boundaries are useful
but not if they stifle
restrict and constrict
wring out your life
suck out your juices
snuff out that feeble light
that searches for an opening
a door
with a handle
a step
leading who knows where.
To leave behind
where you simply do not fit
square peg in a round hole
maybe that is it
or maybe the hole in which you fit
is somewhere other
than where you sit.
Whether alone
or with another
who cares enough
to reach within
and bring you out
the time must surely come
to look up to the light
clamber up
stand on the edge
and see anew
a vastly different view.
