Weather Forecasters

When the sound of the Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos drifts up from down in the valley, you know rain is on the way. They band together, circling the village and flying in and out of the neighbouring bushland, a raucous bunch. Their call to arms is unlike that of the white cockatoo, and there’s something about their manner and appearance that demands respect. They seem aloof, set apart from their white cousins who are often regarded as something of a pest. It feels to me it would be beneath them to submit themselves to being coaxed into saying Hello Cocky. And right on cue, the rain has come, a blessing after the hot days and drying winds.
